Magnolia Trees – Satoshi Curaçao
Orange Curaçao is a staple of any cocktail or home bar. Yet, there are just a few high-quality ones out there. This new one comes from Satoshi combines orange eau de vie with Italian brandy and some sugar. I just had to try it in a Margarita variation.
Satoshi, who are famous for their gin as well as their blood orange eau de vie, added the first liqueur to their portfolio. They use a combination of bitter orange as well as blood orange eau de vie in combination with seven-year-old Brandy from Bologna. Apart from that, the amount of sugar also is reduced to the minimum for a liqueur. Furhtermore, Satoshi does not add colouring or additional flavours and bottle their liqueur at 40 % ABV.
Oranges and Curaçao
This might seem pretty obvious, but the Satoshi Noble Curaçao tastes of oranges, blood and bitter oranges to be exact. It therefore evokes the instant association of curaçao. The brandy just lingers on in the back of the taste and does not overwhelm it. Despite its higher ABV, the alcohol is very well integrated. Yet, the liqueur is not as sweet as comparable products.
Is this already ‘spiced’?
There were a lot of options when it comes to drink choices with orange curaçao. Yet, I went with a Margarita variation. Instead of tequila, I used an agave spirit from the Distillerie de Paris. A drop of rose water here and a dash of absinthe there and the ‘Magnolia Trees’ was ready. Apart from that, I had to balance the drink with a bit of agave syrup, because the Satoshi Curaçao has less sugar.
1,5 cl Satoshi Noble Curaçao
3 cl Lime Juice
0,75 cl Dark Agave Syrup
3 Sprays Absinthe
Spray chilled Cocktail glass with absinth – shake – strain – prepared glass;
Garnish: No garnish;
Song: St. Paul & The Broken Bones – Magnolia Trees;
The ‘Magnolia Trees’ starts like your regular Margarita. Yet, the absinthe and just the slightest touch of rose makes itself noticeable. The orange liqueur works perfectly well with the other ingredients. You definitely should check this bottle out, it definitely will elevate your cocktails!
