Tropical Month – Palisades/Storm

I discovered the Scaramanga Rhum through my fellow bloggers from Zucker & Zeste. They interviewed Sven Sudeck who now promotes the Rhum. The Scaramanga is intended as an introduction to the relatively unknown category of Rhum Agricole. In this case, the sugarcane juice distillates come from three producers in Guadeloupe. After distillation the Rhum spends 100 days in stoneware vessels. Finally, the blend is bottled as an ABV of 45 %.

Sa propre mort

The Scaramanga really starts with familiar flavours of sugarcane juice Rhum. There is this distinct grassy note, I always associate with this style. Yet, you can also find some buffalo grass as well as a certain fruitiness. On the palate, the rhum comes off as quite smooth with similar flavours. Apart from that, I did also find some hot spices. Obviously, I had to try a Ti Punch with the Scaramanga and it was quite tasty, even without ice.
Straight-up Hurricane

For a drink with the Scaramanga Rhum, I added a splash of passionfruit liqueur to a Rum Sour style cocktail. Apart from that, I added a few dashes Bittermens Tiki Bitters. As a sweetener I went for some homemade Lady Grey tea syrup. Apart from that, I used a combination of lime as well as lemon here.

1,5 cl Chinola Passionfruit Liqueur
2 Dashes Bittermen’s Tiki Bitters
1,5 cl Lemon Juice
1,5 cl Lime Juice
2,25 cl Homemade Lady Grey Tea Syrup
Garnish: Lime Twist (no drop);
Song: San Fermin – Palisades/Storm;
The Palisades/Storm starts with a flavour reminiscent of the classic Hurricane. Yet, after a short while you are greeted by spice flavours from the bitters and the syrup. The rhum lingers on in the back adding to the cinnamon-like flavour. All in all, this was a tasty tropical cocktail without the usual dilution through ice or crushed ice.

*The fact that I received a product reviewed in this article for free, did not – in any way – influence the rating of said product. I received the rum for free from Jacobi Spirits.
