St. Patrick’s Day 2026 – Kicking Around

In my opinion, the Cameron’s Kick cocktail probably is the most underrated Irish Whiskey cocktail. However, the combination with Scotch, lemon and orgeat just works! In this case, I decided to use the Old Comber Blended Irish Whiskey and added a bit extra.

First, let us take a look at the Old Comber Blended Irish Whiskey. It comes from the Echlinville Distillery and uses a blend of grain and pot still whiskeys. Afterwards, the blend is finished in port and sherry casks. The whisky is non chill-filtered and bottled at an ABV of 46 %.
Unusual, but interesting

The whiskey really needs some air. Otherwise, you are greeted with a rather unusual linseed oil note. However, after ten to five-teen minutes those flavours disappear and make way for a combination of grain and spices. The usual Irish Whiskey flavour of caramel and backing spices only emerges towards the aftertaste. All in all, this was an interesting sip and I am curious as how the whiskey will fair in a cocktail.
A tiny drop
Basically, all I did was to add some lemon eau de vie. A healthy splash is enough. As for the Scotch whisky, a bit of smoke flavour works best here. It should only accentuate the taste and not overwhelm its Irish counterpart. Personally, I think around 2 cl of orgeat is enough here, but as with every sour style cocktail, you should adjust to taste and acidity of the lemons.

3 cl Blended Scotch
1 Bsp. Lemon Eau de Vie 3 cl Lemon Juice
2 cl Orgeat
Garnish: Lemon Twist;
Song: The Tallest Man on Earth – What I’ve Been Kicking Around;
The Kicking Around starts with a classic whisky sour style flavour profile. Only after a second the nutty flavour of the orgeat comes through. On top of that, the lemon eau de vie emphasises the lemon peel flavours present in the cocktail and therefore adds to the complexity. Nevertheless, this cocktail is an easy sipper with very pleasant notes also reminding me a bit of honey.
