Artist’s Special – Element R/1.0
As you will know from my recent article on Irish whiskey tasting, I am a big fan of the country and its whiskey in particular. Fortunately, Kirsch Whisky provided me with their relatively new Element Fusion Series R/1.0.

While the name of this whiskey sounds quite cryptic, the whisky itself comes from the Great Northern Distillery. The triple distilled Irish Whiskey uses a blend of 85 % bourbon cask grain whiskey, 5 % malt aged in virgin American oak, 5 % Oloroso sherry cask malt, as well as 5 % malt aged in seasoned stout casks.
Quite tasty

The Element whiskey starts with classic ‘Irish whiskey’ flavours and a combination of cereals, caramel and vanilla. Apart from that, I found some perfumed flavours, a touch of grass as well as spices. Towards the aftertaste I got a hint of sprouted barley reminding me of a stout. All in all, the whiskey delivers a balanced but foreseeable taste.
One of the best
There are not too many recipes with Irish Whiskey out there. Yet, the Artist’s Special works exceptionally well with this type of whiskey. This is why I decided to mix the cocktail using the Element whiskey. On top of that, I used Palo Cortado sherry from Fernando de Castilla instead of the regular Oloroso sherry.

4,5 cl Fernando de Castillo Palo Cortado Sherry
1,5 cl Lemon Juice
1,5 cl Partschillerhof Organic Red Currant Syrup
Garnish: Lemon Twist;
Song: Interpol – Specialist;

It is been a while since I had my last Artist’s Special, but this one was a very tasty. I especially enjoyed the combination with the sherry. The nuttiness came through very beautifully. The drink was very balanced.
*The fact that I received a product reviewed in this article for free, did not – in any way – influence the rating of said product. I received the whisky for free from Kirsch Whisky.
