A Nordic Blueberry Sour – I’ve Been Dazed
I got a long backlog of drinks I did not get around to write about. However, the list of cocktail ideas is even longer. Well, this time I am presenting an absolutely delicious cocktail to you. However, I do not really recall what the motivation behind it was.
The drink in question starts with some leftover cacao nib infused aquavit I had from Matthias Soberon’s Christmas challenge. I guess I tried to incorporate it in a sort of Beauregarde’s Breakfast style cocktail.
Additional, sherry and honey
As a base spirit, I chose the excellent No. 3 Gin. It just seemed like a great combination with the cacao infused aquavit. Furthermore, I used Amontillado sherry to further enhance the flavours. For the sweetener I used honey syrup and therefore the Bittermen’s Krupnik Honey Bitters, too.
3 cl Cacao Infused Lysholm No. 52 Aquavit
2,25 cl Fernando de Castilla Amontillado Sherry
2 Dashes Bittermen’s Krupnik Bitters
1,5 cl Lemon Juice
1,5 cl Lime Juice
1,5 cl Honey Syrup
Shake – strain – chilled Double Old-Fashioned glass over ice;
Garnish: Dried Lemon Wheel; Song: Michael Kiwanuka – I’ve Been Dazed;
The ‘I’ve Been Dazed’ starts with a clear combination of aquavit and blueberry flavours. The gin comes in a little while later with its earthy and resinous notes. The sherry adds some nuttiness which works exceptionally well with spices and herbs of the two spirits. Besides, the taste, I also love the colour of the drink!
