Tropical Month – Pirate’s Penicillin

My good friend Sepo over at the Galumbi blog came up with this drink in 2019. Yes, it took me quite a while to reshake this cocktail. However, when I am not the only one with an obscure ingredient, I just have to do it eventually.

Sepo used a rum from Trinidad for his original version. Yet, I only had one from Nicaragua on hand. Nevertheless, I stuck with the rest of the ingredients, especially the galangal cream liqueur from the Preußische Spirituosen Manufaktur.

Pirate’s Penicillin:
View in: de en
5,5 cl Zapatera 1996 Rum
1,5 cl PSM Galangal Cream Liqueur
0,5 cl Giffard Banane du Bresil Liqueur
2 cl Lemon Juice
1 cl Forest Honey
4 Drops Saline Solution
2 Sprays Papadiablo Espadin Mezcal
Shake – chilled Double Old-Fashioned glass over ice cubes;
Garnish: Slice of ginger;
Song: Ezra Bell – Pirate Ship;

The Pirate’s Penicillin starts with Rum Sour flavours, but soon the slightly hot and bitter notes from the galangal liqueur take over. The banana liqueur and the dark honey balance it out a bit. Furthermore, you obviously also taste the smoky mezcal notes.
