Miracle Love – Nolet’s Dry Gin Silver

So it is Valentine’s Day, and I thought I would write about a matching cocktail. Yes I know, I am in the middle of „Tropical Month“, but I just had the idea for this drink and thought you would not mind the little detour. For the recipe I combined gin, orange eau de vie, rose liqueur and a special orange juice. On top of that, I am also presenting a great gin to you.

The Nolet’s Dry Gin Silver was thought of by Carl Jr., Bob and Carolous Sr. Nolet from the distillery in the Netherlands famous for their Nolet Vodka. They set out to create a different gin using high-quality ingredients. Not all botanicals are published, but some are juniper, Turkish rose, peaches, raspberries, saffron and verbena. Each botanical is distilled separately on pot-stills and afterwards Nolet dilutes the gin to 47,6 % ABV.

A floral peach orchard

While the Nolet’s Dry Gin Silver is not exactly what you would call a classic London Dry Gin. Instead, you get a lot of floral notes reminding me of rose petals. Furthermore, you also can taste some fruity notes, especially a hint of peaches. Do not get me wrong, the gin is very pleasant and does not overdo it with the perfumed or fruity notes. The accompanying spices and the juniper which also finally makes its way to your palate keep the gin from drifting off into that direction. On top of that, the gin is rather smooth for its relatively high ABV. For a Gin & Tonic, I dried the Nolet’s Gin with Fever Tree Clementine and Mediterranean Tonic Water. Both tonics worked fine, but I guess I would prefer the latter.

More flowers!

Well, the cocktail would not be a real Valentine’s Day libation without roses. However, instead of just relying on the rose flavour of the Nolet’s Gin, I also added a splash of rose liqueur. A sour base seemed the best match for the floral flavours. So, I added a sweet-and-sour mix of lemon juice and honey. – I have to admit, I was strongly inspired from Matthias Soberon when coming up with this recipe. Apart from that I also used a recently discovered new orange variety. Distiller’s Cut (Another Drinkstagramer) mixed up a Mezcal Magarita variation with it and as it happens I found Cara Cara oranges in my local supermarket. I added just a splash of this more floral orange to the recipe. Last but not least, I further emphasized the orange flavours by adding the superb Etter Vielle Orange eau de vie to the recipe.

3 cl Nolet Dry Gin Silver
1,5 cl Etter Vieille Orange
0,75 cl Wolfberger Rose Liqueur
2,25 cl Lime Juice
1,5 cl Cara Cara Orange Juice
2,25 cl Honey Mix
Shake – strain – chilled Cocktail glass;
Garnish: Rose petals;
Song: Matt Corby – Miracle Love;

Of course, the “Miracle Love” is a floral cocktail. However, not unlike the Nolet’s Gin itself, the drink is rather refined. You will notice some rose petal notes and a familiar, yet different orange flavour. The citrus notes are more balanced than with regular orange juice. The spiciness of the gin rounds out the drinking experience and adds even more complexity. I enjoyed this gin sour variation very much and would not only sip it on Valentine’s Day.

*The fact that I received a product reviewed in this article for free, did not – in any way – influence the rating of said product. The gin was provided by Nolet, the orange eau de vie by Etter and the Gin & Tonic glass by Eisch.
