Word by Word – B My Gin Dry Gin

I guess this is the first time that I reviewed the same spirit for a third time. However, when the gin in question is produced for a bartender friend of yours, you should make an exception. On top of that, it is always nice to see how a spirit and your taste develop over time. Therefore, I mixed up a Gimlet variation with the B My Gin from Lake Constance. Furthermore, the recipe not only features one, but two of bartender’s favourite liqueurs, St. Germain and Drambuie.

After reviewing the original B My Gin with 42 % ABV and the 45 % ABV version, I revisited the latter. The recipe for the gin has not changed and Florian Faude still uses apples, cardamom, juniper, lavender, lemon, roses and violets for the gin. In the end, the New Western Dry gin is bottled at an ABV of 45 %.

Familiar notes

I instantly recognized the B My Gin’s taste. This probably is a good sign that the gin already has a familiar taste for me. Furthermore, the apple and floral notes were most prominent to me this time. The juniper notes are there, but a bit more subdued than I remembered. However, this can also be due to me becoming accustomed to juniper too much. All in all, the B My Gin still is a great not too juniper-forward and slightly fruity gin. For the obligatory Gin & Tonic I paired it with the Veen Nordic Tonic Water which uses birch as a flavouring. Together with some edible flowers this makes for a very delicious pairing.

An enhanced Gimlet

The basic idea was to make a Vieux Mot variation with the B My Gin. However, I also had some home-made lime cordial on hand. So, I simply replaced the lime juice with the lime cordial. On top of that, I also added a bit of Drambuie and Peychaud’s Bitters. This means that the drink is more on the sweet side, but that was a bit intentional. If you like you could counter this by adding a splash of lime juice.

Word by Word:

4,5 cl B My Gin
1 Dash Peychaud’s Bitters
1,5 cl St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur
0,75 cl Drambuie Whisky Liqueur
2,25 cl Lime Cordial
Stir – strain – chilled small Cocktail glass;
Garnish: Lemon Twist (no drop);
Song: Bombay Bicycle Club – Word by Word;

As already mentioned, the “Word by Word” is a bit on the sweet side. Nevertheless, the elderflower and whisky liqueur flavours work perfectly with the B My Gin. On top of that, the Peychaud’s Bitters add a bit more complexity. I enjoyed the cocktail quite much, but it is not as refreshing as the Vieux Mot or the regular Gimlet. Therefore, I would sip this cocktail on colder summer days.

*The fact that I received a product reviewed in this article for free, did not – in any way – influence the rating of said product. The gin was provided by B My Gin.
