Remixed! – A Moment of Silence

The A Moment of Silence from Maks Pazuniak – inventor of the Angostura Sour – also uses a whopping amount of bitters. To be honest, I am not the biggest fan of that. Yet, I could not resist to try this crazy combination.

The cocktail is supposed to be a La Louisiane variation. Yet, the two recipes only share the rye whiskey. Apart from that, the A Moment of Silence contains ½ an ounce of Angostura Bitters, a Campari rinse as well as boned applejack.

Only on substitution

Furthermore, apricot brandy and Averna balance out the drink. I actually, had all the original ingredients except for the bottled-in-bond applejack. However, I just used barrel strength calvados instead.

As with previous drinks containing a large amount of Angostura: I get the appeal, but I still prefer to use bitters in dash quantity. The drink just came off as weird with a mix of ingredients which go very well together, but a lot of “Angostura” in the aftertaste. Apart from that, the drink really was on the sweet side. Maybe, I will try this drink with the Angostura Amaro again and see how that turns out.
